The blackboards at Emerson High School in Oklahoma City needed replacing. During the replacement the school and construction workers discovered a treasure trove of blackboards from 1917. The newer blackboards were just installed on top of the older blackboards. The old blackboards were found in four different school rooms. The discovery provides a wonderful insight into what education was like in 1917 Oklahoma and provides a comparison of the abilities of students at that time and today. Each of the individual blackboards in each room is about four feet square. The blackboard sections are dedicated to separate areas of study including art, math, history, music, and penmanship.
