While the Humane Society of the United States is currently doing everything in their power to stop the cruel and barbaric practice of dog fighting, the onus also falls on regular people like you and me. Although most of us would agree that there are few positives to be taken from this so called sport, stopping this sadistic contest is going to take a group effort.
Those of us who have seen dogfights already know how awful they are and that there is no excuse for placing two innocent animals in the ring with each other. What kind of people can watch that sort of thing and take any kind of amusement out of it? Seeing dogs that would have been the sweetest companions in any other situation turned into trained killers gives us a heavy heart.
Not only do people watch these fights for fun, they even gamble on the outcomes. This puts dogs in the position of being forced to fight for their lives, while also providing an opportunity for gamblers to wager on their misfortune for personal profit.
Dogs that are inevitably injured in combat do not receive an honorable death or even a chance to mend their wounds. As soon as a dog fighting contestant is no longer useful to their masters, they are cruelly tossed aside, as if they mean nothing. In many cases, their injuries are unable to be treated and they die without receiving medical attention.
The Humane Society of the United States has taken it upon themselves to put a stop to this once and for all. They remain vigilant about rescuing dogs who have found themselves trapped in the world of dog fighting and the rescuers in this video initially believed that they were going to set two dogs free.
But there was an incredible twist to the story and when they arrived, they were presented with an opportunity to change the lives of at least 50 dogs! To find out more about this unique rescue mission, be sure to take a look at this incredible video.
The pain that these poor dogs have experienced is plain to see for any viewer. The sadness in these dogs’ eyes is truly haunting and we can only hope that these mistreated animals can find a suitable forever home before it is too late. Please share this story, so that awareness can be spread about the dangers of dog fighting.
