Animals require food, water, exercise, a home and love. Ganesh had none of these things. He was teetered to the ground and near death when the friends heard of him. As they tried to approach, Ganesh barked and growled. Finally he realized they were not there to cause him more harm.
Ganshe devoured the food they offered and drank the fresh clean water. The comforted the poor animal which was so thin he appeared to be skin over bone. As luck would have it the owner of the property came home and they sprang into action. They asked the property owner about the obvious neglect of the dog. The property owner explained that the dog had belonged to his nephew who had abandoned it.
The property owner seemed to feel no obligation to feed, water or care for the dog. After all it was not his dog! Though the dog was tied down and could not roam to even attempt to forge for food elsewhere. The dog was offered no shelter from the rain, sun or cold. If someone did not step in, it would be a very short period of time and the dog would die. This fact had no effect on the property owner.
Feeling put out by being questioned by these strangers the property owner asked if they wanted the dog. They did not hesitate! They knew this dog needed immediate help.
Ganshe is now well fed. He is clean and loved and being cared for by a veterinarian. The new owners are fostering Ganshe through Good Karma Pet rescue and they have set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for Ganshe’s medical treatment.
There is no excuse for any animal being neglected to the point of death. There are shelters that would have taken this beautiful animal and found him a home. Until the animal was placed with either a shelter or a home, the property owner had an ethical and moral responsibility to provide the basics to sustain life as long as the animal was on their property. They could have insisted that their nephew retrieve the dog and find it a home. There are many options. It is great that the new owners had a stronger core value system. Thanks to strangers, this animal will survive.
Hugo and his roommates are now fostering Ganesh on behalf of Good Karma Pet Rescue, and have even set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the money needed to provide Ganesh with all of the medical treatments he’ll need during his recovery. Share away, people…
