Soldiers Return The Favor To “Hug Lady” Fighting Cancer
I am going to share with you a very inspiring and heartwarming story of the “Hug Lady.” I am talking about the 83-year old lady named Elizabeth Laird is also known as the “Hug Lady.” The reason she is known as the “Hug Lady” is because she has been giving hugs to troops heading out for duty at Fort Hood in Texas. The 83-year old has been doing this gesture of humanity for the last 12 years. She has been giving each soldier a hug before they leave for deployment. And this is her way of thanking the troop for serving the country. She also makes sure she’s there to give them a welcome home hug too. It’s estimated that over the span of 12 years she has hugged close to 500,000 troops.
However, Elizabeth hasn’t been able to give her hugs of late. She’s in hospital now battling the breast cancer she’s been fighting for the past 11 years. Since her absence has been noticed from the soldiers, they all decided to return the favor. That’s why they decided to pay her a visit in the hospital.
“It would be my honor to give her a hug in her time of need,” Staff Sgt. Jarvez Wilkes told NBC. “I made it my business to get down here and show her a little love because she’s shown me plenty of love.” Furthermore the troops have gone a step further by donating, and have helped raise money for the “Hug Lady” to cover her medical expenses, raising over $80,000 to help her. I guess this is such a great story of a great lady. Her hugs have been acknowledged throughout all these years, and that’s why she is not going through this cancer battle all alone. As always don’t forget to share this inspiring story with your friends and family.
