Using a 9 by 13 pan, spray it with your favorite non-stick oil. Set your oven at 350 degrees to preheat. Gather your ingredients together. You will need a yellow cake mix, any brand you choose. You will need a can of cherry pie filling and 1 can of crushed pineapple. Also needed are 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a stick of butter, 1/2 cup of coconut and 1/2 cup of walnuts. You could use another type of nut that you choose.
After you spray your pan, take the can of cherry pie filling and spread it into the pan evenly. Open your cake mix and sprinkle it on top of the pie filling. Take the time to make sure any big clumps are broken up. The cake mix should be evenly spread across. Take the can of crushed pineapple and spread it on top of the cake mix and filling. Use the juice and all. On top of the pineapple, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly. Make sure that each item added on top is equally distributed. Cut your butter into 8 slices and place it next. You then sprinkle on the coconut and nuts, if you wish.
Place this into the oven for one hour. Check halfway through to make sure that the cake is browning evenly. Remove from oven when a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and serve. What a great dessert to have even for company or to take to a party.
