Cats are the least likely animals to be heroes, and this is because they are the types of animals who always need saving. Cats also love to be adored and petted by their human owners. This doesn’t give them room to worry about others as they are really self centered pets.
This cat changes the perception we have of the felines and presents them in a more considerate light. It is evidence that maternal instincts supersede the need to be loved and worshipped.
When it comes to rescue stories, we can never guess the outcome, because if someone does not come along and save the situation our worst fears might come to pass. Perhaps it is fate or just plain luck, but this remarkable story led to not just saving one life but, two lives. Somewhere in Obninsk, in faraway Russia, a newborn had been abandoned in the worst of conditions- a freezing hallway.
In Russia, the cold can be as low as -4 degrees Celsius, and snowflakes can cover a small child on the ground. This weather can kill a grown man, let alone a little baby who has not lived long enough to grow some kind of immunity.
The baby was placed in a box in a hallway which was also freezing, and it was apparent that the baby would die in a short while if left in that condition. The cat’s motherly instincts kicked in, and she decided to do what no one would have ever expected. She crawled close to the freezing baby and curled around her. She did this to warm the baby with her fur to prevent the cold from killing the child.
The cat was then named Marsha, and when they were found in the morning, and the baby was taken by paramedics to the hospital to recuperate, the cat refused to let go and followed them to the emergency room to make sure that the infant was safe. One paramedic stated that the cat seemed worried when they were taking the baby, and wanted to join them. When the baby was examined, they found that the baby was two months old and was very healthy. The public hopes that Marsha would be adopted by the same family same way the baby was adopted so she can keep her eyes constantly on the baby.
